AER-COMED (sub-project 3): Pregnancy complications following treatment with glucocorticoids and NSAIDs in patients with various inflammatory rheumatic diseases

Sub-project 3 is investigating the relationship between treatment with glucocorticoids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) during pregnancy and the occurrence of pregnancy complications. The investigation encompasses not only premature births, but also low birth weight and serious infections in newborns. Previous findings suggest that glucocorticoids, especially in higher doses, can increase the risk of premature birth. This risk is to be investigated and assessed in more detail in this project.

The analysis is based on data from four different long-term cohort studies, the Rhekiss pregnancy register and the RABBIT, RABBIT-SpA and JuMBO disease registers. This comprehensive data allows to analyse in detail pregnancy outcomes of women with various inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
