Lisa Budzinski im Leibniz Magazin
In the current issue of the Leibniz Magazine, Lisa Budzinski, a PhD student from Hyun-Dong Chang’s research group, provides fascinating insights into the myriad of gut-microbial inhabitants, which appear to be increasingly involved in shaping our daily lives. She explains the impressive diversity of bacteria that colonize our gut and shows how they help us to digest food and train our immune system.
The 2022 German Science Slam Champion emphasizes that a high diversity of intestinal flora is a sign of a healthy gut and that changes in the microbiome, known as dysbiosis, can indicate diseases not only in the gut. In the interview, the biotechnologist further explains that there are no “good” or “bad” bacteria and spells out the differences between probiotics and prebiotics and why chickpeas are especially good for our gut bacteria.
