DRFZ anniversary ceremony
On 20th November 2018, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the German Rheumatism Research Centre Berlin (DRFZ) with the motto “30 years of rheumatism research, from bath medicine to cell therapy – a mission for a healthy life”.
Among our guests were the Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research Thomas Rachel, the President of the Leibniz Association Matthias Kleiner, the Chairman of the Board of the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin Karl Max Einhäupl, and the current President of the Foundation Board of the DRFZ Reinhold E. Schmidt. The celebration was rounded off with music performed by Mrs. Hwayoon Lee, scholarship holder of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, and the pianist Thomas Hoppe.
Fritz Melchers and Joachim Kalden, two founding fathers of the institute, gave a review of the first years of the DRFZ. Traudl Herrhausen, as long-time president of the DRFZ Board of Trustees, spoke of the freedoms and challenges associated with private research funding. The first short film highlighting the research and tasks of the DRFZ, which will soon be available on the website, was also premiered.
Long-time companions of the institute from research, patient associations and from our partner clinics took part in the birthday celebration, and together with “today’s” DRFZ employees, everyone enjoyed the wonderful celebration.
