Exceptional Student Award for Lisa Budzinski
Lisa Budzinski, from the Schwiete-Laboratory for Microbiota and Inflammation at the DRFZ, was recently awarded the Exceptional Student Award by the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC). She was presented with the award during the Society’s annual congress – CYTO 2023 – in Montreal, Canada, in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the field of cytometry.
The PhD student impressed the jury with her method for studying intestinal bacteria using flow cytometry, which allows her to show that the bacteria in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases have different cellular properties depending on the disease. These intestinal microbiota “fingerprints” are so specific that they can be assigned to certain diseases and could thus be used as a diagnostic tool in the future.
Exceptional Student Award
The Exceptional Student Award recognises continuing outstanding performance by a student with scholarly contributions to the field and to the Society. To be eligible for this award, a candidate must be a member of the Society, be a pre-doctoral or pre-masters’ student, and follow a field of study in any physical or natural science with a goal of working in cytometry.
