Chiara Romagnani is a new member of the Leopoldina

Prof. Dr. Chiara Romagnani, Liaison Group Leader at the DRFZ and Director of the Institute of Medical Immunology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. This membership is considered one of the highest scientific honors and recognitions in Germany and beyond. As the world’s oldest permanently existing academy of science, the Leopoldina plays a central role in providing scientific advice to politics and society.

Only outstanding scientists with excellent research achievements become members. Members contribute to science-based decision-making through expert opinions and statements. The Leopoldina advises the German government and international organizations on scientific issues. Membership is for life and is linked to the expectation of being actively involved in scientific and societal discussions.

National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina

The Leopoldina is the National Academy of Sciences and advises politics and society on a scientific basis. It draws up interdisciplinary statements that point out possible solutions, while the political decisions lie with the government. Its approximately 1,700 members from over 30 countries work on a voluntary basis. As the oldest science academy in the world, it has officially represented German science in international bodies since 2008 and serves the common good.
