Producing an Arthritis Value-Framework with Economic Evidence – Paving the Way for Rare Childhood Diseases (PAVE)

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) can have a significant financial and social impact – from individual costs and productivity losses to a reduced quality of life. The international research consortia PAVE (Producing an Arthritis Value-Framework with Economic Evidence) is comprehensively investigating these burdens.
Analyzing data from the German JIA inception cohort ICON with over 900 participants, direct, indirect and intangible disease costs over a period of up to nine years are analyzed. Particular emphasis is placed on the financial burden on patients and families, as well as on the measurability of these factors.
International partners from Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Israel and Belgium complement the research with analyses of various aspects in different health care systems. The aim is to develop a comprehensive, patient-oriented value framework that contributes to a better understanding of the burdens and to targeted support for people with JIA.
